Position Overview                                                                                   

 

The Aquatics Coordinator oversees all activities and programs in the Aquatics Center and serves as the Head Coach of the Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Program.  This position is also responsible for the supervision, direction, and training of Assistant Coaches.

 

Reports to:

Athletics Facility Director as the Aquatics Coordinator

Director of Athletics as the Head Coach of Swimming and Diving

 

Direct Reports: 

Assistant Swimming and Diving Coaches

 

This position is a salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 10-month position.  Days of work are Monday through Friday and the core hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Evening and weekend work may be required.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, organization, and supervision for all practices and contests
  • Implement and maintain a standard of performance consistent with the institution’s goals of athletic excellence
  • Train and supervise assistant coaches
  • Conduct the program within the rules and regulations of the GHSA
  • Manage the program within the parameters of an approved budget
  • Assist in organizing home and away travel contest arrangements
  • Manage and schedule all use of the Aquatics Center including facility rentals
  • Supervise, direct, and train lifeguards
  • Oversee the maintenance of the pools, including chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance, in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of a public swimming pool
  • Develop, implement, and oversee a variety of aquatics programs for students, faculty, staff, and members of the general public
  • Participate in and teach water certification training sessions, as necessary
  • Teach classes within the Physical Education Program
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years previous coaching experience
  • Minimum of five years lifeguarding experience
  • Current Water Safety Instruction Certificate
  • Current Advanced Lifesaving Certificate
  • Current Adult CPR and Community First-Aid Certificates
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating a large, multi-pool aquatic facility
  • Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools and public baths
  • Ability to formulate and implement policies
  • Must be able to be certified to drive the institution’s buses
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members 

Physical Demands

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.  The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 200 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Ability to walk over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; sitting and standing for long periods of time; ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

 

Travel

 

Travel is primarily local during the business day, with some out-of-area and overnight travel expected.
