Job Title: UPPER SCHOOL AP CHEMISTRY TEACHER

 

Position Overview

Westminster teachers are more than academic experts, serving as coaches, advisors, and inspirational mentors.

Westminster teaches science in the following sequence: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, followed by electives including Environmental Science in 12th grade. We seek candidates who have a strong academic and teaching background in Biology and the ability to cross-over into one or more of the following areas: Environmental Science, Physics, and/or Chemistry.

 

The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2019.

Reports to:  Head of Upper School

 

Position Status:  This position is a salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 10-month position.

 

Qualifications

  •      M.A. in Chemistry and/or professional or practical experience in a scientific field preferred
  •      Two years of Upper School AP Chemistry teaching experience and a background in integrated studies preferred but         not required
  •      Proficiency with instructional technology

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  •    Teach sections of AP Chemistry and possibly other sciences depending on the expertise of the applicant
  •    Co-teach a 3-week immersive, interdisciplinary class during Jan Term
  •    Work directly with 18 other Upper School Science teachers as part of a Science PLC
  •    Advise students as part of the Upper School Advisory Program
  •    Contribute to the larger school community through coaching or sponsoring other extracurricular programs. Depending     on candidate expertise, responsibilities may include robotics, Science Olympiad, or developing curriculum for an             existing greenhouse and organic garden

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

 

TRAVEL

 

[Travel is primarily local during the regular business day.  Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.]
