Job Title: UPPER SCHOOL PHYSICS

POSITION OVERVIEW

With over twenty science faculty resourced by a wealth of facilities, Westminster’s Upper School offers a robust science curriculum, including Physics (9th), Chemistry (10th), Biology (11th), and AP Physics and AP Environmental Science (12th), complemented by a range of electives, including Neuroscience and Anatomy.  

The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2019.

Reports to:  Head of Upper School

Position Status:  This position is a salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 10-month position.

Qualifications

•      M.A. in Physics and/or professional or practical experience in a scientific field preferred
•      Two years of Upper School AP Physics teaching experience and a background in integrated studies preferred
•      Proficiency with instructional technology

Duties & Responsibilities

•    Teach 3 sections of Physics with labs including AP Physics
•    Co-teach a 3-week immersive, interdisciplinary class during Jan Term
•    Work directly with other Upper School Science teachers as part of a Science PLC
•    Advise students as part of the Upper School Advisory Program
•    Contribute to the larger school community through coaching or sponsoring other extracurricular programs. Depending on candidate expertise, responsibilities may include robotics, Science Olympiad, or developing curriculum for an existing greenhouse and organic garden

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
