Job Title: LOWER SCHOOL LEAD TEACHER

The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2019.
Supervisor: Head of the Lower School
Position Status: This position is a salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 10-month position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Teaching experience at the elementary level and an advanced degree are preferred. A demonstrated understanding of constructivist theory and practice, integrated studies, Responsive Classroom, Readers and Writer’s Workshop, Math in Focus/Singapore Math, and assessment practices based on learning goals will allow candidates to readily implement the hallmarks of the Westminster Lower School program.
In addition to experience and a strong educational background, successful candidates demonstrate a love of working with children, an engaging teaching style, the ability to interact well with parents and colleagues, and a willingness to create and promote an inclusive learning environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partnering with another lead teacher in the classroom
- Creating differentiated learning experiences aligned with formative and summative assessments
- Teaching an intentional social and emotional learning curriculum
- Contributing to interdisciplinary curriculum design and student support strategies with the grade level team and academic coaches
- Participating in the work of the PLC (Professional Learning Community) of the Lower School
- Attending scheduled committee and faculty meetings, both during and after-school
- Ensuring the safety of each student by supervising and engaging in recess, lunch, and transitions between classrooms
- Providing feedback on and evaluation of students during the admission process
- Contributing to the larger school community through coaching or sponsoring other extracurricular programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
TRAVEL
