Job Title: UPPER SCHOOL HISTORY TEACHER

 

Position Overview

The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2019.

 

Supervisor:    Head of the Upper School

 

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in history (or associated field) required; graduate training in history at the master’s or Ph.D. level preferred.
  • Experience teaching United States history or the history of Europe and the modern world at the secondary and/or college level.
  • Proficiency with interdisciplinary studies and instructional technology preferred.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of history classes. Depending on instructor’s area of expertise and departmental needs from year to year, responsibilities will include teaching American history or modern world history, and may include teaching an introductory skills and methods course, the history of the premodern world, or departmental electives.
  • Co-teach a 3-week immersive, interdisciplinary class during Jan Term
  • Active participation in professional and curricular development.
  • Serve as an advisor to students as part of the school’s larger commitment to student support.
  • Contribute to the larger school community through coaching or sponsoring other extracurricular programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

 

TRAVEL

[Travel is primarily local during the regular business day.  Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.]
